<p>RELATE is the subject of a round table discussion of Pelagos &#8211; Sea Heritage Exhibition, now in its 13th edition, from February 19th to 27th 2011, within  the Big Blue &#8211; Rome Sea and Nautical Expo.<br />
The protagonist of the event is the sea itself, with an  exhibition area in which communication and entertainment events will be  held.  RELATE is invited in consideration of the great importance that this year edition as well is addressing to communication and scientific communication and it will be presented as best practice in science communication with a special focus on energy topics.</p>
<p>The 25th of February, at 11, in the central Area of Pavillion 11 &#8211; PELAGOS, Rome Expo, the coordinator of the project, Ms Hinano Spreafico will talk about RELATE together with Ms. Fabiola Falconieri and Mr Massimo Izzi from ENEA.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 270px">The Final Conference of ReLaTe project took place the <span style="text-decoration: underline"><strong>28<sup>th</sup> of January 2011 in Brussels</strong></span>. <strong> </strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 270px;text-align: center"><strong><a href="http://relateproject.eu/form/" target="_blank"></a></strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 270px">The workshop was an occasion to gather EU Commission representatives, European media experts,  the research laboratories and some of the students who participated in the initiative.</p>
<p>During the Conference the RELATE Assessment Report, prepared by the project partners, was presented and a discussion about future similar initiatives and their sustainability was launched.</p>
<p>The workshop also aimed at enhancing a debate comparing experiences done in ReLaTe project with other projects, with the final scope of improving the communication of European research and more in general the media-scientists dialogue.</p>
<p>Two best young journalists were awarded and we can finally announce the winners: Mr. Mico Tatalovic, from Croatia and Viktorija Rinkeviciute, from Lithuania. Our congratulations to both of them!</p>
<p>The final conference was held in Scotland House, in Place Schuman 6, 8<sup>th</sup> floor, Brussels (Belgium).</p>

<p><strong>Chiara Veronesi</strong>, who spent one week in Bilkent University labs in Ankara (Turkey) has succesfully published an article in the on line science news platform <strong>Galileo. <p>The European Molecular Biology Laboratory, based in Heidelberg, Germany, is seeking an intern to join the European journal for science teachers, <em>Science in School</em>.  The objective of the initiative is to enrich the journalists skills by gaining practical experience in the field of science publishing.</p>

<p>ReLaTe project coordinator, Hinano Spreafico has been invited together with ENEA partner, Ms. Fabiola Falconieri, to present the ReLaTe proejct experience at the IX National Congress on Science Communication on the 25<sup>th</sup> November 2010 in Trieste (Italy).</p>

<p><span style="color: #ffffff"><strong>Succesful publication for two of the ReLaTe students’ articles</strong></span></p>
<p>The article of  <strong>Smitha Mundasad,</strong> who participated in the second training session of the ReLaTe project, has been published by the science news website <strong>The Naked Scientists: Science Radio &amp; Science Podcasts.</strong></p>
<p>Smitha spent a training week at the Bilkent Nanotechnology Research Center at the Bilkent University, set in Ankara (Turkey). The article tackles the application of the Light emitting diodes (LEDs) technology on bulbs, in order to improve the quality of light through the use of nanocrystals, which provides energy efficiency  on bulbs.</p>

<p><strong>31 young journalists ready to participate in the third and last session of the ReLaTe project: 8 laboratories from 7 different European countries will host journalists during the month of November 2010.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify">The welcome laboratories in this final session are the Chemistry and Genetics Lab from Bilkent University (Turkey); the Laboratory for Materials Science from L’École Polytechnique Fédérale de Laussane (Switzerland); the Education and Public Outreach Department from the European Southern Observatory (Munich, Germany); the Institute of Photonic Sciences from Bardelona (Spain); the Branchyterapy Lab; the LIM -MOD Lab, the Cristalline Silicon PV and the Laser Spectroscopy of Functional Materials Lab from the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development in Rome; the Astronomy Haus from the Max Plank  Institute for Astronomy (Heidelberg; Germany); the Estación Biológica de Doñana (Huelva &#8211; Seville, Spain); the Department of Electronics, Computer Sciences and Systems, the Department or Agroenvironmental Sciences and Technologies and the Department of Marine Science from the University of Bologna (Italy).</p>

<p><strong>Anna Korolyuk</strong> has successfully published her article in the scientific platform <strong>New Science Journalism</strong>. Anna, from Finland, participated in the second training session of the ReLaTe project, and spent a training week at the <strong>LENS Institute- European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy </strong>set in Florence (Italy).</p>
<p>The article, named <strong>Ultracold gases research: why do we need it?</strong> tackles the researching run by physicists in the field  of ultracold gases.</p>

<p>The radio piece of  <strong>Sven Knobloch,</strong> who participated in the second training session of the ReLaTe project, has been published by <strong>Detektor.fm.</strong></p>
<p>Sven spent a training week at the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) in Rome (Italy). The podcast, named <strong>The Future of Solar Energy, </strong>envisages<strong> </strong>the future use and production of solar energy in two fields. In the field of photovoltaics, it discusses the use of thin film solar cells in clothes, the advantages of integrated PV buildings, and the future of nanotechnology.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ffffff"><strong>The Economist published one of the ReLaTe students&#8217; article</strong></span></p>
<p>ReLaTe partners congratulate <strong>Tiffany Stecker</strong> for the succesful publication of her article, appeared on <strong>9th August 2010 on The Economist. </strong></p>
<p>The article, on the EU-funded<strong> </strong>TyGRe project, concerns a new way of recycling old tyres and  has been written after the  training week  Tiffany has spent at Tubitak Marmara Research Centre in Turkey, one of the project partner of both the TyGRe and ReLaTe project.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ffffff"><span style="font-size: small"><strong>Announcement for young researchers</strong>:</span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: left"><span style="font-size: small">The <a href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/events/ict/2010/">ICT 2010 conference</a> will take place in Brussels on <strong>27-29th September 2010</strong>. ICT 2010 is organised by the European Commission and hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the European Union. Around 4.500 participants are expected to attend this event. The EC is inviting young researchers working in FP7 ICT projects to attend the conference in Brussels as reporters of the main sessions, exhibition &#8220;watchers&#8221;, web radio animators and interviewers of the VIPs.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify"><span style="font-size: small">In this special workshop, energy researchers, journalists and project coordinators presented what they have learned after their week in the labs. It was be an occasion to share views on how to improve the transfer of information between researchers and journalists and in particular with energy researchers. 10 journalists were hosted by the Marmara Research Centre during the entire week, within the framework of RELATE project and 5 of them stayed in the Energy lab.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-size: small"> </span></h3>
<p><span style="font-size: small">The workshop took place on the last day of the training week when the journalists concluded their training and were ready to take part in the discussion with the researchers other local journalists and participants. In addition, the workshop was a chance for researchers and for the media attending to discuss how to set up new frameworks for cooperation, with the aim of better connecting relevant EU research to the mainstream and specialised media.</span></p>
