Overseas studies for VU students Study overseas while gaining credit towards your degree. You can study on an exchange or study abroad placement, or choose from one of our short-term study opportunities.


Student exchange

Study overseas on exchange and gain credit towards your degree. Ourstudent exchange program gives you the opportunity to study overseas for six months to a year, while still paying for your studies with VU. 

We have exchange partnerships with over 100 partner institutions  in more than 30 countries around the world. 

Study abroad

Study abroad for a semester or a year with a non-partner institution of your choosing, or with a partner institution that does not have any more exchange placements available. 

Study abroad students will be required to pay fees directly to the overseas university or institution. Financial assistance may be available to assist you with help you with the costs involved.

Short courses and programs

Choose from a range of overseas short courses and programs offered through our exchange partner institutions, or other external parties. Short courses or programs usually run from two to six weeks.

Study tours

Study tours are often organised by academic staff and involve a group of students travelling overseas. Contact a course coordinator to find out if there are any study tours available during your course.

Practical placement 

If your course requires a practical component, you may be eligible to complete this placement overseas. You will need to discuss this with your course coordinator to obtain approval.
